Importance of advocacy
The Quebec Federation of Alzheimer Societies believes that research is the key to a cure. Significant investment in basic and clinical science is critical to achieve a world without Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Until we find a cure, we also strive to provide better support, care and treatment for people living with dementia today.
Support from our governments is essential to meet the needs of everyone touched by this devastating illness. The Quebec Federation of Alzheimer Societies is committed to advocating for legislation, policies and programs that are responsive to the needs of people with dementia, their families and caregivers.
The Quebec Federation of Alzheimer Societies believes that we are facing a national crisis that requires innovative and integrated thinking to find effective solutions.
The capacity of our current supports and health-care systems pale in comparison to the rapidly escalating health, economic and social demands of dementia. Governments of many other countries have taken concrete steps to study dementia and its consequences and many have made dementia a national priority. Canada has yet to take these steps.
We are calling on the Government of Canada as well as the government of Quebec to demonstrate leadership by sponsoring the development of a national and provincial response to the dementia crisis.
